Planet Rating, headquartered in Paris, France, is a specialized microfinance rating agency offering evaluation and rating services to microfinance institutions (MFIs), using the GIRAFE methodology. GIRAFE has been specifically designed to suit to the microfinance sector.
Planet Rating was created in 1999 as a department of the international NGO PlaNet Finance. Our GIRAFE methodology, initially created by Gilles Galludec (of CGAP and Finadev) and later adapted by Alice Negre, is continuously enhanced to follow the evolution of the sector. On June 21st 2005 Planet Rating was officially spun off and became an independent, private entity registered as a "Société par Actions Simplifiée" under French laws.
The shareholders of Planet Rating meet in the General Meeting every year. The current shareholders are: PlaNet Finance, the COFACE (export guarantees, receivables management), the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (public assets managers) and Viel and Cie (broker at the Paris Stock Exchange).
To date, Planet Rating has conducted over 200 missions in more than 50 countries and continues to expand its international presence. Planet Rating’s products and services are continuously developed to better suit clients' needs.
Since 2005, Planet Rating has an international network including the headquarters in Paris and four Regional Offices: Lima covering South and Central America, Dakar covering West and Central Africa, Kampala covering East and South Africa and Beirut covering the Middle East and North Africa.
Since June 2005, Planet Rating has been spun off from PlaNet Finance
