Through its various service lines, the organisation strives to meet the whole needs of a still-growing sector, in order to accomplish its objective of a financial sector open to all:

  • at the centre of PlaNet Finance’s activity, technical assistance allows to strengthen the capacities of the actors from this sector (MFI, banks, governments, professional networks) and of the microentrepreneurs themselves,
  • through its financing offer and financing consulting in debt, PlaNet Finance allows to increase credit lines and current MFIs’ growth,
  • through the MFIs rating, PlaNet Rating takes part of the global transparency of the sector,
  • with MicroCred, the organisation meets the demand in financial services from the poorest thanks to the creation of a Microfinance Institutions network

A SIMPLE IDEA - Jacques Attali

Assisting PlaNet Finance in getting its message across is a unique experience. The first thing you realise is the scale of the task involved: Awareness of the idea of microcredit is still in its infancy, not just among the general public, but also many senior figures and those able to shape public opinion. There is still much work to be done in increasing awareness of this issue in people’s minds and as part of public debate. You also realise the importance of the issue: as soon as you are able to have a face to face conversation, you can see in the eyes of the other person that you are able to convince them of a simple idea: the fact that giving the most impoverished people the opportunity of earning a living is the best way of meeting the challenge of poverty in the long term. This is why PlaNet Finance has decided to gradually start using in all its documents, the slogan, “Help them earn a living while they still can”. These words say it all, in everyday language, but also subtly convey the urgency and essential nature of the task ahead of us.

This leads me to the third reason why helping PlaNet Finance to make its message heard is a unique experience: because it is an experience that changes us, changes us all, one that has changed everyone I work with. To use a phrase which, in my view, has become somewhat tired over the years, but which continues to be perfectly valid, it is an experience that brings out the fighter in you. And by that I mean that it brings out a wonderful combination of three things: a clear vision of the need to take action, the use of expertise and the emotion brought about through communication. I therefore ask you to join me in helping “them earn a living while they still can”.

Jacques Attali,
president of PlaNet Finance
