The damage caused to Burma and its communities is immense with the death toll in excess of 22 000, and the damage to infrastructure amounting to billions of dollars.

While emergency relief is being organized on an international scale, PlaNet Finance draws the attention of the international community and the Burmese authorities to the use of microfinance as a reliable and durable tool for reconstruction and rehabilitation

PlaNet Finance puts its services at the disposition of Burmese authorities to help rebuild enterprises and finance microentrepreneurs, enabling entire communities to escape from poverty, and permitting them access to health care and education.

PlaNet Finance Israël launches a new platform for social change

PlaNet Finance Israel, in cooperation with Shatil, launches the ‘Israeli non-profit platform for social change', a series of workshops to raise awareness about microfinance, as a relevant tool to tackle poverty in Israel for Israeli NGOs.

PlaNet Finance Israel and Shatil partner to organize 3 workshops to be held on May 19th, June 6th and June 16th in Tel Aviv, Beer Sheva (South of Israel) and Haifa (North of Israel).

2008-04-29PlaNet Finance attends 2008 FEMIP Conference
Sanabel and The European Investment Bank Host 2008 FEMIP Conference in Tunisia

On 5th of May 2008, Sanabel, the largest regional network for microfinance institutions (MFIs) in the Arab world, in conjunction with the European Investment Bank EIB host the 4th FEMIP conference, a one day event entitled "Microfinance in the Mediterranean: What's the Impact?", focusing on the social and financial impacts of regional microfinance. Held in Tunisia, this conference will bring together microfinance professionals and stakeholders across the Arab region. President of PlaNet Finance Jacques Attali will be present, acting as guest speaker on the day, accompanied by Managing Director, Sebastian Duquet, answering questions about the influences of microfinance on economic and social development.

Sanabel will go on to hold its Fifth Annual Conference, "Advancing Arab Microfinance: Greater Social Impact through Inclusive Financial Systems", from 6th - 8th May 2008, where international and regional experts will share their insights about the latest developments in the sector and their implications for the Arab world.

Netfective technology and PlaNet Finance raise awarness of microfinance projects

The Edhec Course Croisière (Edhec University Boat Race) celebrates its 40th anniversary from 19 until the 26 April 2008 in Sands of Olonne, a seaside town on the west coast of France. Recognized as the first student sporting event of Europe, the spring ECC unites more than 6000 students of various horizons and 10,000 spectators. This prestigious sporting event is where passion and conviviality, students and companies and earth and sea meet to become counterparts for a very special week!

2008-04-13Milan – Host of the 2015 Universal Expo
Milan supports microcredit with PlaNet Finance

Early in March of this year, the City of Milan and PlaNet Finance made a commitment to launch a cooperative program that favours the recourse to and promotion of microcredit,

This activity will have the objective of reducing poverty, in particular within urban and rural zones, with a focus on the most marginalized populations, through the development of small and micro enterprises.

The cooperation of the city of Milan with PlaNet Finance will provide these populations the opportunity to access the labour market, a necessity for the personal dignity of every individual, and a fundamental for the peaceful and civil relations between men and women.

The main fruit of the agreement with the city of Milan will be the initiation and the promotion of a fund. Mrs Moratti, mayor of Milan, announced that the sum of 1 million euros will be destined to this fund.

From the 1st to the 7th April 2008, a week dedicated to sustainable development is being held in France. Piloted by the ministry of Ecology and Sustainable Development (MEDAD), this event has the specific goals of informing the general public of the constituents of sustainable development and changes of behaviour that are a requisite to maintaining Eco-friendly practices. The theme chosen for this year is sustainable production and consumption of energy.

The carriers of the Olympic torch take to the streets of Paris today

Lenovo, partner of PlaNet Finance and the official sponsor of the Olympic Games of Peking 2008, gave 7 men and women the honour of participating in the relay of the Olympic Torch today, one of whom was Rudy Jonstomp. A young microentrepreneur, Rudy received the support of FinanCités, PlaNet Finances' venture capital company, to create a free magazine dedicated to martial arts and combat sports:
