Project Status: Launch Q3/2012
In developed countries like Israel, microfinance is still in its infancy. With the help of technology, local microfinance institutions (MFIs) can increase their outreach and tap into previously inaccessible markets. 'MicroWorld Israel', a project Planet Finance Israel will launch in partnership with Israeli MFIs and enterprises, offers an online platform for facilitating flows of small-loan capital from international lenders to low-income micro-borrowers in Israel.
An interactive platform inviting individuals throughout the world to provide short term interest-free loans to Israeli micro-entrepreneurs will help fund the MFI's eligible clients, and connect the Israeli public and Jewish diaspora to back Israel's poorest, setting partner enterprises and the individual at the forefront of a new social responsible network.
MicroWorld Israel aims to advance the use and awareness of microfinance as a sustainable tool to fight financial exclusion and poverty in Israel. By enabling individuals in Israel and abroad to make small loans to Israeli micro entrepreneurs, the project will strengthen micro-entrepreneurship and the development of economic opportunities in Israel, thereby reducing the dependency on philanthropy.
To jump-start the Israeli microfinance market and help local MFIs extend their outreach to unlimited and untapped sources of funding through advertising their clients' needs on an internationally accessible micro-lending platform.
To create a strong link between donors and beneficiaries: put a human face on the Israeli micro-entrepreneurs and enable donors to personally chose and monitor the success of their beneficiary.
To enhance the public's awareness of new forms of solidarity through attractive promotional micro-lending campaigns.
